Okta Certification Classic Exam Discontinuation - FAQs
Okta Certification Classic Exam Discontinuation - FAQs
Okta Certification regularly conducts exam and certification maintenance, and as a part of this process, we have decided to discontinue several exams that are based on the Okta Classic Engine beginning June 1, 2024. Below are some frequently asked questions related to this exam discontinuation.
Which Okta Certification exams are being discontinued?
The following certification, premier practice, and standard practice exams are being discontinued:
Why are these exams being discontinued?
These exams are based on the Okta Classic Engine, and Okta Certification is aligning our Certification exam catalog with the Okta Identity Engine (OIE).
When is the last day to take the exams that are being discontinued?
The last day to take these exams is May 31, 2024.
Are there any differences between the Classic exams and the OIE exams?
The primary differences are that the classic exams are based on the Okta Classic Engine, while the OIE exams are based on the new Okta Identity Engine. Because the OIE platform is more modern, several tasks are executed differently. As a result, the new exams have several different topics, and old topics that are carried over are measured based on how the Okta Identity Engine works. You can learn more about the differences between classic and OIE here.
In addition to the difference in Okta Engine, the items on the classic exams for the Administrator and Consultant certifications are all discrete option multiple choice (DOMC) items. The items on the OIE exams for the Professional, Administrator, and Consultant certifications are a combination of DOMC items and hands-on use cases in which test takers must complete configurations in an Okta org.
If I have already taken the Classic version of the exam(s) and got certified, is there anything that I need to do to maintain my certification?
All Okta Certifications, with the exception of the Okta Certified Technical Architect, are valid for two years. If you took the Okta Classic exam(s) to earn your certification, it will remain valid for two years from the date you became certified. In order to maintain your certification, you must take and pass the associated certification maintenance exam before it expires or earn a higher-level certification if you do not already hold the highest-level Okta certification. You can learn more about keeping your Okta certifications current at https://www.okta.com/stay-current.
Once you pass the maintenance exam, your certification(s) will be valid for two years from the date you passed the maintenance exam. For a list of Okta Certification maintenance exams, click here.

What should I do if I have already scheduled one of the discontinuing exams for a date after May 31, 2024?
You should reschedule your appointment to take your exam by May 31, 2024. If you do not think you will be adequately prepared by then, we recommend you cancel your exam registration by May 30, 2024, at the latest, and schedule the appropriate OIE exam.
What should I do if I took an Okta Classic exam but did not pass and would like to retake it?
You can retake the Classic exam until May 31, 2024. After that, you will need to take the OIE equivalent of the Classic exam.
Can I use unexpired vouchers I purchased to take classic exams once the classic exams are discontinued?
Yes, as long as a voucher is unexpired and its dollar value is less than or equivalent to the price of the exam you want to take, you can apply that voucher to the purchase of the exam you want to take.
Is there a difference in the price of the classic exams versus the OIE exams?
No, for all the classic exams we are discontinuing, the OIE exams that replace them have identical prices.
Are the OIE exams out of beta? Are they globally available?
The OIE exams have been out of beta and in production since 2022. Thousands of admins and other IAM professionals have already taken them.
